Cheques mates ... former Prime Minister, Harold Wilson, and last of The Summer Wine star Bill Owen (right) receive a £300 cheque from Johnny's nightclub director Joe Marsden (centre) for the Examiner body scanner appeal. Johnny's raised the cash by selling straw boaters featuring the appeal logo and already the club has ordered another 1,000.

International singing stars the Three Degrees, from the USA, raised temperatures and a smile on the faces of the Huddersfield Hotel owners Johnny and Joe Marsden during a stay at the brother's hotel.

The girls and their team of 17 musicians
and technicians had a party at the Rosemary
Lane Bistro after their appearance at Sheffield City Hall.

Helen, Valerie and Sheila were booked into
the hotel for 3 nights because of its central location and reputation for looking after
visiting guests.

Mr Blobby

Mr Blobby stayed at Johnny and Joe's hotel in 1993. His record was number 1 in the charts and he came to switch on the town centre lights.

The actual men who wore the outfit were Phil Birdsall and Michael Dinning, both ex royal marines who took it in turns to wear the outfit.
